NYFW SS’25
Sarah Wondrack is a fiber artist based in Brooklyn, NY. A former fashion design educator in Detroit, MI, she obtained her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2019.
Focusing on sustainability and using existing materials, Sarah views fashion as a medium for transformation and metamorphosis. Her current work explores how fashion transcends the representational meaning of garments, the familiar contours of the human body, and fixed forms of identity.
By using the body as a means of communication and juxtaposing the grotesque with the beautiful, she pushes its boundaries, redefining the human silhouette and opening the door to new possibilities.
Metamorph is a collection by artist Sarah Wondrack that transforms fabric into wearable extensions of the body. Using a shibori technique and adding wire, she creates pieces that act as fluid appendages. The chiffon is marbled with blacklight ink, giving each garment a watery, dynamic texture. Focused on altering the human silhouette and challenging traditional fashion norms, Wondrack emphasizes sustainability by incorporating found and recycled materials. Collaborating with musician Otodojo, she crafted a soundtrack of ten evolving phases, with the garments’ energy growing in sync with the music. The interplay of sound, light, and movement turns her work into living sculptures, embodying continuous transformation and metamorphosis.
