THE SIGNIFICANCE OF KRATER
The symposium, a festive gathering deeply ingrained in Greek society, especially in Athens, held significant social and cultural importance. Vase depictions over a century illustrate the central role of wine, women, and song in these events. However, the true essence of the symposium was its role as an institution fostering citizen engagement, facilitating business transactions, and promoting serious discourse, as highlighted in Plato's dialogues.
A key element of the symposium was the vase used to dilute wine with water and serve it to participants.
In black-figure vase painting before the late sixth century B.C., large and elaborate kraters often depicted mythological scenes. This particular krater is exceptionally important as one of the earliest to portray wine, women, and song in a mythological context.
Inspired by this vessel, we have named our event KRATER, symbolizing an artistic incubator where sustainable fashion design, electronic music, and performance art converge.
