lakras
NYFW FW’24
Founded and led by Colombian designer Maria Alejandra Caicedo, known as Alek, Lakras is a unique brand exploring the intersections of fashion, art, and crafts. Breaking traditional boundaries, the Colombian label creates pieces for exhibition-sale or collaboration with other artistic projects.
LAKRAS serves as a creative laboratory for modified garments, accessories, unconventional fabrics, and experiential pieces, celebrating imperfections and blurring the lines between reality, fiction, and mythology. Emphasizing affection and collaboration, LAKRAS prioritizes handmade creations over mass production, adding a human touch to each piece.
More than just a brand, LAKRAS represents the avant-garde of Colombian-inspired couture, synthesizing craft, experimental design, and historic imagery. It acts as a contemporary portal into Latin American heritage, resonating with those seeking exclusive and imaginative fashion statements.
LAKRAS has just launched a collaboration with Apoc Store, now accessible for purchase on the online marketplace specializing in independent fashion, design, and art. The brand has garnered recognition in publications like Glitch Magazine, Voyage LA, El Espectador, and London Weekly Journal, among others.
“lucky girl syndrome” collection
"LAKRAS' Collection "Lucky Girl Syndrome" showcases ALEK's transformative vision, transcending boundaries in both artistry and personal growth. This captivating presentation delves into themes of identity and feminism, enhanced by an enchanting ambiance reminiscent of an 18th-century circus.
LAKRAS redefines the fusion of fashion and art, embracing diversity and intersectionality. Collaborating with stylist Juan Pablo Falla and drawing inspiration from Yorgos Lanthimos' "Poor Things," the creative force embarks on a personal exploration of her Victorian-era ancestry, reimagining historical garments for the modern era.
The collection, featuring meticulously crafted haute couture garments and accessories from Colombian brands, transcends traditional boundaries, embodying a mythological essence elevated to haute couture standards. The designer's transformation, including the shift to long black hair, reflects inner evolution, further accentuated by theatrical influences throughout the collection.
With nods to iconic figures like Pina Bausch, the designer curates a diverse cast, adding intrigue to the runway. They embody a powerful presence, affectionately dubbing themselves "the queen" or "the witch" of the collection, inspiring audiences to embrace change and celebrate their uniqueness.
