VALENTINA BACHE RODRIGUEZ / RASPADITOS

Valentina (they/them) was born and raised in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. At 15, they skipped high school, moved to Massachusetts to attend Bard College at Simon's Rock, and obtained an Associates Degree in Biology & Dance. Yearning for more dance, they moved to NYC to attend Hunter College for a BA in Dance, graduating in 2020. They have performed with Young Boy Dancing Group as well as many grassroots organizations throughout the city, at venues ranging from the historic Judson Church and Kaye Playhouse, to the floors of underground raves. They create hand-woven art under the moniker "Raspaditos," only using second-hand or deadstock fabric and scissors to create genderless, sexy, and versatile clothing that's ideal for dance. They believe in the power of pleasure and joy through resilient, stubborn, and unbound honesty.

“This collaboration was borne effortlessly from this kismet bond. A mutual admiration of each other's work, has pushed each of us to achieve new levels of skill and creativity.

Our collection grew from a desire to transform rather than consume. We sourced our materials almost exclusively from garments and fabrics that had been discarded by other brands. At its core, our collection meditates on adaptability and the beautiful uncertainty of existence; surrendering to the balances of life in all their twisted glories. In the quest to achieve greater heights of expression, we centered performance in our collection's presentation. Through dance, we brought our community a pleasurable state of perpetual motion where disruption can be born.”
